UTM parameters are small tags added to the end of a URL, such as utm_source, utm_medium and utm_campaign. Analytics tools like Google Analytics read them to show exactly which channel, campaign or ad sent each visitor to your store.

Only the website URL is required. Source, medium and campaign are strongly recommended so your reports stay readable, while term and content are optional and useful for paid keywords or A/B testing creatives.

Pick a convention and stick to it: use lowercase, and the same words every time, for example facebook rather than FB or Facebook. The quick-fill buttons help, because Analytics treats different spellings and cases as separate sources.

Use it anywhere you link to your store from outside it: social posts, email newsletters, paid ads, partner sites or QR codes. Every click then shows up correctly attributed in your analytics campaign reports.
