Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. Everything happens locally in your browser using on-device AI. Your photos are never uploaded, stored, or sent anywhere. Only the AI model itself is downloaded (once) from a public CDN.
Why is there a download the first time I use it?
The background-removal model runs on your device, so its weights (about 25 MB) download once from a content delivery network. Your browser caches them, so subsequent uses are instant and work offline.
Does it work without a powerful GPU?
Yes. When your browser supports WebGPU, processing uses the GPU and is much faster. Otherwise it falls back to WebAssembly on the CPU, which still works but is slower, best on a desktop with a recent browser.
What image formats can I export?
You can download a transparent PNG (ideal for layering over any background) or a WebP, which is smaller for the web. You can also flatten the cut-out onto a white, black, or custom solid color.
Is this good for product photos?
Absolutely. Clean white or transparent backgrounds make product images look professional and consistent across your catalog and marketplaces like Amazon, Google Shopping, and Instagram.
Can I use the results commercially?
Yes. The underlying model is released under a permissive Apache-2.0 license, and the images you process are your own, so the output is yours to use in your store and ads.
