How to Build Your Ecommerce Commercial Calendar

Build an ecommerce commercial calendar for the next 12 months: key US and UK sales dates, with lead times for stock, promotions and shipping cut-offs.

How to Build Your Ecommerce Commercial Calendar

Many online stores find out about a sales event a few days before it starts. By then it is too late to reorder stock, the promotion gets improvised, and the ads go live after shoppers have already compared prices somewhere else.

An ecommerce commercial calendar solves this with one document: every date your customers care about, each with a preparation deadline attached. This guide covers what to record for each date, the key dates from November 2026 to October 2027, and how to plan backwards from each one.

What goes into an ecommerce commercial calendar

A public holiday is just a day off. A commercial date is one on which your customers change how they buy: they search earlier, spend more, or shop for someone else. Only the second kind belongs in your calendar.

For each entry, write down:

  • The date, and whether it moves from year to year.
  • Who buys. On gifting dates the shopper is usually not the person who will use the product.
  • The lead time: when stock must be ordered and when banners, emails and product pages must be ready.
  • The offer, decided in advance.
  • Last year’s result: revenue, traffic, conversion rate and what went wrong.

That last column is what makes the calendar better each year instead of starting from zero every January.

Key sales dates from November 2026 to October 2027

The table uses US and UK dates. If you sell in other countries, add their version of each occasion, because the same celebration often falls on a different day: in 2027, Mother’s Day is on 7 March in the UK and 9 May in the US, while Mexico celebrates it on 10 May every year.

Date Occasion Start preparing
Fri 27 Nov 2026 Black Friday (US Thanksgiving is Thu 26 Nov) 8 to 10 weeks before
Sat 28 Nov 2026 Small Business Saturday (US) With Black Friday
Mon 30 Nov 2026 Cyber Monday With Black Friday
Fri 25 Dec 2026 Christmas 8 weeks before; publish your last order dates in November
Sat 26 Dec 2026 Boxing Day (UK) and the start of the January sales 4 weeks before
Sun 14 Feb 2027 Valentine’s Day 6 weeks before
Sun 7 Mar 2027 Mother’s Day (UK) 6 weeks before
Sun 28 Mar 2027 Easter 6 weeks before
Sun 9 May 2027 Mother’s Day (US) 6 weeks before
Sun 20 Jun 2027 Father’s Day (US and UK) 6 weeks before
Late Jul to early Sep 2027 Back to school (from late July in the US, late August in the UK) 8 weeks before
Sun 31 Oct 2027 Halloween 6 to 8 weeks before
Fri 26 Nov 2027 Black Friday From September

Treat the lead times as a starting point. A store that imports its products needs far more time than one that restocks from a local supplier in a week, so replace them with your real supplier times.

Four kinds of dates worth tracking

Global retail peaks

Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Christmas and the January sales are the dates every retailer plans for. Many large retailers now open their Black Friday deals in early November, so a store that starts promoting on the Thursday before arrives after a lot of shoppers have already bought.

Because everyone competes on these dates, ad costs rise and discounts get deeper. Decide early whether you want to compete on price or offer something else, such as a gift with purchase or guaranteed delivery before Christmas.

Local and national dates

Country-specific events attract shoppers who already plan to buy, and you compete with fewer international brands. A few examples outside the US and UK:

  • In Chile, the Santiago Chamber of Commerce (CCS) runs CyberDay in June, CyberMonday in October and its own Black Friday, which runs from 27 to 30 November 2026.
  • In Mexico, El Buen Fin runs from 13 to 17 November 2026, and the Hot Sale takes place at the end of May or the start of June.
  • In Brazil, Dia do Consumidor on 15 March has become a sales date for online stores.

Back-to-school also moves with the hemisphere: in Chile, Argentina and Brazil the school year starts in February or March, not September. Find the dates that apply to the countries you ship to and add them to the calendar.

Gifting occasions

Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Valentine’s Day, graduations and weddings bring in people who are buying for someone else. They need different things from your store: gift wrapping, a delivery date they can count on, price filters, and a clear exchange policy.

A gift page that answers “will it arrive in time, and can they exchange it?” near the top deserves more of your effort than a deeper discount.

Your own dates

Dates you create yourself are free of competition: your store’s anniversary, a sale for newsletter subscribers, a mid-season clearance timed to your stock cycle instead of the calendar. They also give you a reason to contact customers in months with no public event.

How to build your calendar in an afternoon

Team planning sales dates on a large wall calendar

1. Pull last year’s data

Open your analytics and order history and mark every week that beat your average. Some peaks will match the dates above. Others will be specific to your store, such as a spike after an influencer mention or a seasonal product that sells every spring.

2. Add the fixed dates

Add the global peaks, the local events in your markets and the gifting occasions that fit your catalog. Flag the ones that move, such as Easter, Mother’s Day and Black Friday, so you check them again next year.

3. Work backwards from each date

For every entry, set three deadlines:

  • Stock: the order date, based on your supplier’s real lead time plus a buffer for delays.
  • Content: banners, product photos, category pages and email copy ready about two weeks before launch.
  • Launch: when the promotion goes live. For the big peaks, that is earlier than the date itself.

4. Decide the offer now

Discounts decided under pressure tend to be deeper than they need to be. Write down the mechanic while you have time to check the margin: a percentage off, a bundle, free shipping above a threshold, or a gift with purchase.

If you sell on Jumpseller, you can set the offer up ahead of time in Promotions, including subtotal discounts, free shipping, “Buy X Get Y” deals and coupon codes. A separate coupon for each channel shows you afterwards which one drove the sales.

5. Cut what you cannot execute

Six events done well bring more than twenty done halfway. If a date does not fit your catalog or your team’s capacity, drop it on purpose and write down why.

Prepare the store before the traffic arrives

The calendar tells you when to act. These are the things to check in the weeks before each peak:

  • Stock levels. Overselling during a peak means refunds and, often, a bad review. For products that sell out, back in stock notifications let interested customers know when you restock.
  • Page speed. Compress the banners you add for each campaign; a slow home page costs more on a peak day than on any other. Our guide to loading speed explains what to look at.
  • Payments. Check that your payment methods match how your customers pay, including instalments where they are common, and test checkout end to end.
  • Shipping cut-offs. Publish the last order date for delivery before Christmas, Mother’s Day or any gifting date, and show it on product pages and at checkout.
  • Customer service. Decide who answers messages on peak days and prepare saved replies for delivery times, exchanges and payment questions.

After each event, write one line

The calendar becomes more useful once it holds your own results. After each event, note what sold, what ran out, what you would change and when you should have started. Next year, that note is more reliable than any forecast.

Start with the next four months: list the dates that matter to your customers, set the stock and content deadlines, and decide the offers now. When you are ready to plan the campaigns themselves, our guides to promotions that work and social media marketing cover the next step.
